As Christians, our faith teaches us that every human life bears God’s image and deserves dignity, care, and protection. Yet today, many of our immigrant brothers and sisters are living in constant fear.
Across the country, masked ICE agents are targeting schools, churches, and hospitals – traumatizing children, separating families, and injuring innocents.
Tragically, it hasn't stopped there. ICE's violent enforcement practices have now claimed the lives of U.S. citizens. In Minnesota, federal agents shot and killed 37-year-old Renée Good, a mother of three, and 37-year-old Alex Pretti, an ICU nurse — both of whom lost their lives while trying to stand up for their neighbors and document the unconstitutional and harmful enforcement by federal agents.
That such loss of life is occurring at the hands of our own government is unacceptable. ICE has repeatedly violated the rights guaranteed to every individual under our Constitution, and in doing so, has also betrayed our Christian values — treating people with no compassion, no respect, no dignity, and no justice.
Our immigrant neighbors deserve to live in peace, not fear.
The bible reminds us “to act justly, to love mercy, and to walk humbly with our God” (Micah 6:8). But when enforcement practices are built on intimidation, secrecy, and cruelty, they reflect neither justice nor mercy. They contradict the heart of Christ, who welcomed the stranger, protected the vulnerable, and stood with the suffering.
As people of faith, we are called to speak when others are silenced. We are called to stand with families who fear losing one another. We are called to insist that our nation’s policies reflect the dignity, fairness, and humanity God gives to every person.
Together, we can bear witness to a better way—one rooted in compassion, justice, and the unwavering belief that every family and individual deserves to live without terror. Join us in praying that our leaders act with courage and compassion, and stand up for the rights of our immigrant neighbors.
Join us in prayer!
Our Prayer:
As Christians, we pray that our leaders take action to end the abusive and unjust immigration enforcement practices carried out by ICE. We call for policies that honor the God-given dignity and constitutional rights of every person living in the United States and hold government officials and agencies accountable for their actions. May we as a nation choose to follow Jesus’ teachings and defend our immigrant neighbors from harm. Amen.
